Moalboal fiesta

When the name Moalboal is mentioned, the first thing that may come to one’s mind is diving. It is true that this paradise is a diving haven, but aside from its beautiful natural attractions that draw both local and foreign tourists to the municipality, Moalboal also features a rich, colourful culture and tradition that can be best experience and see in the municipality’s fiestas and other cultural celebrations. When you happen to visit the Moalboal during the fiesta season, do not miss to enjoy the town fiesta and its 15 barangay fiestas.

The annual Moalboal Town Fiesta, which is celebrated every month of May in honour of
patron saint, San Juan Nepomuceno, usually runs for more than week like the fiestas in other Philippine municipalities and cities. The town fiesta includes various activities and competitions such as inter-town basketball competition, motocross, band showdown, disco and drinking nights, and beauty pageants.

On the other hand, the barangay fiestas in Moalboal are not as extravagant as the municipal fiesta. But they also feature exciting activities and enjoyable programs, which may include a cock fight for adults, nightly discos or what is known as “bayle” for teens, games like bamboo pole climbing or “palasebo” for both kids and adults, and a rich feast for family and guests.SantacruzanPerhaps the best month of the year to visit Moalboal is May. It is when the summer sun is at its best and when there are a lot of cultural events to enjoy, such as the town fiesta and the Santacruzan. Like other catholic communities in the Philippines, the barangays of Moalboal also celebrate this religious-historical parade that marks the end of the Flores de Mayo or the flower festival of May. The Santacruzan is held in honour of Reyna Elena, also known as Helena of Constantinople, who is traditionally accounted with the finding of the relic of the True Cross which Jesus was crucified.

Other entertainment

The town is decked out for fiesta time.

Moalboal is not a place for night party people, but this does not mean that the place is boring or what. It’s just that there are no disco and go-go clubs in the area because the ‘bar village’ was demolished in 2007. However, there are still a number of bars and restaurants along the beach area that offer great food and music entertainment. Moreover, a popular disco is organised from night until dawn every Saturday night at Pacitas Nipa Hut Resort, allowing visitors to enjoy a night of dancing, music and drinking after a week of communing with Mother Nature.
